Permaculture is, although being viewed by many as a way of gardening for lazy people, a comprehensive concept covering all fields of human activity. The internet will give you all the info you want. If you ask for books I can recommend: apart from the PC-bible by Bill Mollison it definitely is "Vivre avec la Terre" from the French Ferme du Bec Hollouin. Or, of course, just come by our little paradise and I can tell you what Permaculture is for us.

For us, Permaculture is a huge joy in our lives, because it enriches every day with so much beauty you would otherwise not even bother noticing! Also, by its application and by observing nature, we actually save lots of useless and annoying work. Heavy machines, chemical fertilizers, insectizides - all this produces low quality products, destroys the soils, damages the whole ecosystem and isnt even very fullfilling.  Working together with, instead of against nature, is a classical win-win situation. Facilitated by Permaculture.

With good observation and thorough planning, in the long term the naturals surroundings as well as we as humans can profit. But there is no shortcut, working with nature does need some patience and passion.

As a small introdcution into Permaculture and how we understand it, Dupa Gard offers guided tours through our property: the mandala/snowflake veggie-garden, the food forest, our fungy clearing, and countless small niches we created, in order to support the big ecosystem. Diversity is so beautiful!

Bringing change on a small scale, in order to initiate change on a global level - thats what our project is about.
